Power Products Recalls Wall Chargers

PLEASE NOTE: THE WALL CHARGERS SUBJECT TO THIS RECALL WERE SOLD ONLY IN THE UNITED KINGDOM



WHAT IS THIS ABOUT? Power Products Unlimited, Inc. is voluntarily recalling certain Switching Adaptors, commonly called Wall Chargers or AC Battery Chargers. Their recall notice is found here. The wall chargers subject to this recall were manufactured by Power Products and sold in the United Kingdom for use with the SG5, SG2.5, and SG2 USB SkyCaddie units. It is possible for these wall chargers to overheat, which could pose a risk of fire, electrical shock or other injury. Back to Top

IS MY SKYCADDIE RECALLED? No, only certain wall chargers are being recalled. Back to Top

HOW DO I KNOW THAT I HAVE A RECALLED CHARGER? The wall chargers were sold packaged with SkyCaddies starting in November 2007. Not all UK SkyCaddies sold in this time frame have the recalled charger. The words “SWITCHING ADAPTOR”, the letters “LPS”, and “MODEL:TC301-0510B10” are printed on a label on the back of the wall chargers. You should immediately discontinue use of any wall charger subject to this recall

WHAT DO I DO WITH THE RECALLED CHARGER? SkyGolf sent a letter to registered customers along with a pre-paid return envelope for use in returning the wall charger for proper disposal. If you have one of the above described chargers, and have not received one of these mailings by April 8th, 2008 please contact us for instructions. Back to Top

HOW DO I CHARGE MY SKYCADDIE WITHOUT A WALL CHARGER? You may continue to use your SkyCaddie and charge it with either:

  • the USB computer cable provided in the original SkyCaddie packaging; (connected to a powered on computer) or
  • a SkyCaddie DC car charger

HOW DO I GET A REPLACEMENT FOR THE RECALLED CHARGER? You should receive a mailing by 11 April 2008 including a code to obtain a replacement charger. If you have verified that your charger is affected by the recall, and you have not received a letter with your replacement code, please contact us.

If you access the internet from within the UK, the link at the end of this section will take you to a page where you can enter an order for your replacement charger. After you add the charger to your shopping cart, you will be taken to a page where you can enter the code. At that point, click on the ‘Update Cart’ button, then proceed to the ‘Secure Checkout’. You will not be billed for either the charger or for shipping. We expect to ship the replacements by the end of April 2008. Click here to enter your order.

WHY DOES IT TAKE SO LONG TO GET MY REPLACEMENT? SkyGolf products go through very stringent test and qualification procedures, and we must obtain government certifications. Factory schedules to manufacture replacements must also be accommodated. We understand and apologize for the frustration this has caused you. We are diligently working to obtain satisfactory replacements as soon as reasonably possible. We expect replacements to start becoming available by the end of April 2008. Back to Top

WHAT ABOUT USING A COMMERCIAL, OFF THE SHELF USB CHARGER? That is possible, but not recommended. Some charger designs can actually drain the battery. Others may not provide the right amount of charging current and either fail to charge the battery or damage your SkyCaddie. Back to Top
