Question: I am not receiving satellite signal. What do I do?
Answer:
The Global Positioning System (GPS) should always be available to you. In order to obtain optimal signal strength, please check the following:
- Make sure your SkyCaddie has the latest software updates. To update the software, connect the SkyCaddie to your PC, turn it ON, and double click the SkyCaddie Desktop Icon to start the “DirectConnect” process. The website will update your SkyCaddie automatically.
- Unlike a cell phone, the SkyCaddie must be outdoors and the antenna must have an unobstructed view of the sky. (Our temporary cart mount was specially designed to work with all carts and places your SkyCaddie in an optimal position).
- While at the course make sure that you provide the SkyCaddie with about 10 minutes to warm-up and acquire satellites. Place the unit in an open area away from buildings and tall trees. We suggest that if you hit range balls or practice putting before your round, place or clip the unit on top of your golf bag. From this elevated spot, the unit will receive signal from multiple satellites.
- Make sure that if you are wearing the SkyCaddie on your belt, you’re not blocking the antenna from receiving signal. By wearing the unit on your belt at start up, you can block out the signal from the satellites to the receiver.

- If you see the "SEARCHING" (SG3 and SG4) or “SEARCH FOR SATS” (SG1 and SG2) message flashing on your screen, the SkyCaddie is searching for signals from satellites. If it continues to display this message, be sure you have a clear view of the sky.
- Once it starts detecting satellite signals, the searching messages will be replaced by a signal indicator on the left (SG1 and SG2) or at the top of the screen (SG3 and SG4). It could take up to 5-10 minutes to compute its initial location once it begins receiving satellite signals.
If you continue to have problems acquiring satellites, please see "Resetting the GPS" below.
